I grew up in a town called Kambalda – `Kal’ was the big city we’d go to on Saturdays to do the shopping – top place! The bus always went down Hay St (which is all brothels to keep the miners happy) – they’d all sit out front and wave to the kids on the bus as they went past – it was the best place to live! Kambalda is on the edge of a 100 mile long salt lake where you could drive 3 wheeled land yachts at 60 mph… not everyone had a car but most had land yachts (home made…)

Have lived in Melbourne 8 years and am leaving in a month or two to study mining, part of which involves working in Kalgoorie. Will be great to get some heat and sunlight for once.
Kalgoorie also represents wealth and opportunity.
The mining industry was fucked long before Maggy, she actually slightly stabilised it, but everyone blames her for the collapse because she was the first leader who wasn’t bullied by the miners.
